The starting point for this piece of theatre was a visit to Gleeson's Gym in NYC and a desire to capture to the thrilling kinetic poetry of a working boxing gym. Written by Briony Lavery for Frantic Assembly, Beautiful Burnout is a piece of physical theatre that combines lyrical text with a touch realistic naturalism and a relentless physical score. Set in a working-class Glasgow scout hall, the play follows a group of young boxers trying to lift themselves out of their circumstances through boxing. A love letter to boxing and a cautionary tale.

​Lots of real sweat (from the cast) and tears (from the audience), Beautiful Burnout was a gutsy and gritty performance that was a heavy hitter.
